I saw a puzzle recently stating that 95.1% of Australians can’t get it right, and wondered how they determine the right answer….
This was it:
0101 = 2
0350 = 2
1111 = 0
4508 = ?
So what is the RIGHT answer…
My answer:
0101 has 2 zeros in it = 2
0350 has 2 zeros in it = 2
1111 has no zeros in it = 0
4508 has only 1 zero in it = 1
But if we look at each column of numbers as Col A, Col B, Col C and Col D we could get a different answer, by this method:
(Column B + Column D) minus (Column A + Column C)
0101 (1+1)-(0+0) = 2
0350 (3+0)-(0+5) = -2
1111 (1+1)-(1+1) = 0
4508 (5+8)-(4+0) = 9
However, another answer gives 4508 as equal to 3
I can see how that answer works, can you ?
Each persons mind works differently, so there may be many answers, and not as many wrong ones as is stated, at 95.1% 😉
966.1 - 870,715
Indeed, there are many (correct) answers. Another answer is 3.
Explanation:
Count the ‘balls’ in the digits (1,2,3,4,5,7 have 0 ‘balls’, 0,6,9 have 1 ‘ball’, 8 have 2 ‘balls’)
So: 4508 = 0+0+1+2 = 3
