George I of Great Britain, the first German King of Britain?..
Much is said about the British Royal Family being German, but little is said to explain it, or indeed to explain why this maybe a false statement.
It is said that George I of Great Britain, was the first German King of Britain, reigning from 1 August 1714 until his death on 11 June 1727.
The reason for being German is that he was born in what is now called Germany.
George I was actually born in Hanover and was the ruler of the Duchy and Electorate of Brunswick-Lüneburg (Hanover) in the Holy Roman Empire from 1698 until his death.
Hanover, along with the rest of Prussia became part of the German Empire in 1871.
George I, (Born 28 May 1660) was King of Great Britain and Ireland between 1 August 1714 and 11 June 1727.
One of George I’s great great grandparents was King James VI of Scotland and I England. (son of Mary, Queen of Scots).
Another of George I’s great great grandparents was Anne of Denmark (second daughter of King Frederick II of Denmark).
Was George I a German or Scottish, or Danish or ?? He probably called himself a Hanoverian at the time.
George I was actually 52nd in line to the British throne in 1714, but as all the rest were Catholics, and he was the next Protestant, he became the next British Monarch.
George I is classed by some as German, because he was born in what is now Germany, but whose great grandfather was King James VI and I (King of Scotland and England), and whose Grandmother was Elizabeth Stuart. (Born in Scotland).
Queen Elizabeth II is classed as British as she was born in England, along with her father George VI, her grandfather George V, her great grandfather Edward VII, her great great grandmother Queen Victoria and all the way back to King Egbert (Ecgberht) (802 – 839) her 34th great-grandfather, born in Wessex England.
