Israel is bombing the Hamas groups military targets, but as the Hamas terrorist group deliberately located in densely populated areas, using the large numbers of Palestinians there as human shields, the civilians of the area are suffering. Many Palestinian civilians are dying due to the Hamas groups decisions to hide among civilians.
The Gaza strip also has a border with Egypt, but the Egyptian authorities have closed their side of the crossing to prevent the Palestinians from entering Egypt.
The United States has asked Egypt to open the Egypt/Gaza border so that the Palestinian civilians can escape the fighting, but Egypt appears loath to take on the responsibility of hosting thousands of refugees.

Hamas, who invaded Israel killing around a 1,000 civilians, was angered when Israel retaliated, attacking Hamas military installations and killing the civilians in those areas.
Hamas says it launched 150 rockets towards the city of Ashkelon in Israel “in response to the displacement and targeting of civilians”.
