Barack Hussein Obama


Barack Hussein Obama II was born on August 4, 1961

His mother, Ann Dunham, was born in Wichita, Kansas, on 29th November 1942 and was of English ancestry.
His father, Barack Obama, Sr., was born in Kenya,  and was a Kenyan senior governmental economist.
The couple married in Wailuku on Maui on February 2, 1961, but divorced 3 years later in March 1964.
His father, Barack Obama Sr., later died in an car accident in 1982.

In 1963, Dunham met Lolo Soetoro, an Indonesian, and the couple were married on Molokai, Hawaii on March 15, 1965.
Lolo returned to Indonesia in 1966, followed sixteen months later by his wife and Obama in 1967.

In 1971, Obama returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents, Madelyn and Stanley Dunham.
In 1972 his mother returned to Hawaii and stayed until 1975 when she returned to Indonesia.
At this time, at the age of 11, Obama chose to stay in Hawaii with his grandparents for high school.

His mother spent most of the next two decades in Indonesia, divorcing Lolo in 1980.
She died on 7th November 1995, in Hawaii.

Obama entered politics in 1996, being elected to the Illinois Senate.

On February 10, 2007, Obama announced his candidacy for President of the United States

On November 4, 2007 Obama won the presidency with 365 electoral votes to 173 received by McCain.
Obama won 52.9% of the popular vote to McCain’s 45.7%.
He became the first African American to be elected president.

The reason for the name Hussein.
Hussein Onyango Obama.
Barack Obama’s paternal grandfather, Onyango Obama (1895–1979), converted from Roman Catholicism to Islam and took the name Hussein.
