UK, New Zealand and Australia suspend funding to the Commonwealth Secretariat.
In February 2020, the UK, New Zealand and Australia have suspended their discretionary funding to the Commonwealth Secretariat.
This suspension will remain until the Commonwealth Secretariats financial systems are tightened up and tested by external auditors.
It follows an investigation by the external accountancy firm KPMG.
Auditors have criticised the secretary-general of the Commonwealth for “circumventing” usual competitive tendering rules when awarding a lucrative consultancy contract to a company run by a friend.
