On marriage to Prince Harry, Will Meghan Markle be able to keep her US Citizenship?..
Former Buckingham Palace press secretary Dickie Arbiter told News Corp said the citizenship issue surrounding Miss Markle was ‘an interesting one’. ‘Meghan can marry Harry but it would be in her interest to become a British citizen,’ he said.
May not even NEED British citizenship, let alone give up her American one.
There is also a precedent, already discussed way back in he past.
In 1936, King Edward VIII of England married an American woman. Due to the laws at the time, he was not able to retain the throne, and instead assumed the title of Duke of Windsor, and his American wife became the Duchess of Windsor. Any children they might have had, would have also been both a titled noble, and an American citizen, like her mother.
Royal Titles for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
It is expected that Prince Harry will be given the title ‘Duke of Sussex’ by the Queen on his wedding day, and Meghan would be ‘HRH the Duchess of Sussex’.
The title ‘Princess’ is only officially given as a title to women who are born into the Royal Family. The title has however been used ‘unofficially’ by some in the past, under the term: “a princess by marriage“.
