Australian Minimum Wage 2024.


The Australian Minimum wage is now $24.10 per hour, from 1 July 2024.

Along with the $24.10 per hour, payable to the employee, the employer also pays a further $2.77 into the employees personal superannuation fund. This is 11.5% of the employees earnings

Permanent Workers minimum wage 2024/25.

The Fair Work Commission announced that it will raise the national minimum wage by 3.75% from 1 July 2024, taking the permanent workers minimum wage to $24.10 per hour, equivalent to $915.90 a week for full-time workers (38-hour week).

The permanent employee rates have increased from $23.23 per hour.

Casual Workers minimum wage 2024/25.

The national minimum wage for a casual employee over the age of 21 has risen to $30.13 per hour. This includes an extra 25% to cover the Holiday and Sick pay, that a casual worker does not receive.

The casual worker rates have increased from $29.04 per hour.

A full time permanent worker (38 hours per week) that takes 4 weeks holiday per year and 5 sick days, will receive $47,621.6 during the year. (52 weeks x 38 hours x $24.10)

A casual worker, working the same hours would receive $53,812.18. (47 weeks x 38 hours x $30.13)

These figures are before tax and Medicare levy.

Australian workers under the age of 21 must be paid at least a specific percentage of the Adult Minimum Wage.

Minimum wages for young workers are calculated as a percentage of the national minimum wage. This table shows the minimum rate you can be paid, depending on your age.

These percentages are:

  • 36.8% for those under 16.
  • 47.4% for those aged 16.
  • 57.8% for those aged 17.
  • 68.3% for those aged 18.
  • 82.5% for those aged 19.
  • 97.7% for those aged 20.

This increase applies from the first pay period starting on or after 1 July 2024.

The rate of inflation may have an effect on the amount of any increase.

  • 2020/21 Australian Minimum Wage rate was $19.84 per hour or $753.80 per week.
  • 2019/20 Australian Minimum Wage rate was $19.49 per hour or $740.80 per week, from July 2019.
  • 2018/19 Australian Minimum Wage rate was $18.93 per hour or $719.20 per week, from July 2018.
  • 2017/18 Australian Minimum Wage rate was $18.29 per hour or $694.90 per week, from July 2017.
  • 2016/17 Australian Minimum Wage rate was $17.70 per hour or $672.70 per week, from July 2016.
