Soviet Union Victims in World War II.

About 34 million people died in the Soviet Union during WW2.

That worked out that the Soviet Union lost 13.7% of its population as victims of the Second World War.

The breakdown of these losses by countries in the Soviet Union were:

  • 25.0% Belarus
  • 16.3% Ukraine
  • 13.7% Latvia
  • 12.7% Russia

One question is: How many were lost fighting on the same side as the Nazis, (when they started WWII), and how many were lost after Russia was then attacked by the Nazis, causing Russia to need allied help to defend itself.
