If Prince Philip dies before the Queen, will that affect the British line of succession?

Many people say that when Prince Philip dies,  it has no effect whatsoever on the Royal succession line.

They say this as he has no right to be King of the UK. 

Although there would be no noticeable effect,  as he is not in direct line of immediate succesion,  it would affect those that are a few hundred down the line in succession.

As a grandchild of Queen Victoria, he is actually a distant successor,  maybe about 500th.  Theoretically, he could be King. But an enormous amount of people would have to die before that could eventuate.
