Press *#06# to disable a stolen mobile cell phone

Is this true:

Press *#06# to disable a stolen mobile cell phone.

Answer

On most mobile phones, pressing the code: *#06# will show the phone’s 15-digit International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) on screen.
This code can be used, by most service providers, to deactivate the handset.

This stops the phone being used by anyone with any other SIM chip. However, it is important that you cancel the mobile phone account with your provider, as the SIM in that stolen mobile phone could still be used in another phone, at your expense.
