How Many Nuclear Weapons does each Country have in 2017

Russia and the USA still account for nearly 93 per cent of all nuclear weapons in the world, and are reducing these numbers each year. However, although the total numbers have reduced, the number of nuclear weapons in the world has increased since 2014.

  • USA has reduced the total from 7,300 in 2014 to 6,800 in 2017, and decreased deployed warheads from 1,920 to 1,800
  • Russia has reduced the total from 8,000 in 2014 to 7,000 in 2017, but increased deployed warheads from 1,600 to 1,950
  • The rest of the world has, combined, increased the total from 1,000 in 2014 to 1,135 in 2017, but reduced deployed warheads from 450 to 400.
