Is Tel Aviv the Capital of Israel

Is Tel Aviv the Capital of Israel?..

So many people seem to think that Tel Aviv is the capital of Israel, and that Donald Trump is telling Israel to make Jerusalem the Capital city of their country.

I have read hundreds of posts on this topic, where people are attacking Trump for that, saying Trump is wrong. BUT, it is them that are wrong.

People are saying things like:

What if Jerusalem becomes the capital of Israel instead of Tel Aviv?
Why does Trump think that assigning Jerusalem as the capital of Israel would be a good idea?

In 1995 the United States recognised Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel, under the Presidency of Bill Clinton. This was done by the US Congress S. 1322 (104th): Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995

The Israeli Government Basic Law states: Jerusalem, Capital of Israel

  1. Jerusalem, complete and united, is the capital of Israel.
  2. Jerusalem is the seat of the President of the State, the Knesset, the Government and the Supreme Court.
  3. The Holy Places shall be protected from desecration and any other violation and from anything likely to violate the freedom of access of the members of the different religions to the places sacred to them or their feelings towards those places.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated on Thursday, 7 November 2017:

  • The Jewish People determined Jerusalem to be its capital 3,000 years ago. Here our forefathers walked. Here our kings ruled. Here our prophets preached. Here are our roots.

There may be an argument for the recognition of moving an embassy into the Israeli Capital, by some other countries, but the thinking that the Capital is Tel Aviv, is detrimental to any valid points regarding that move.
