Poor internet access while staying in hotels had me looking for the best options to increase the strength of my internet reception on my laptop.
Most hotels appear to provide a WiFi access for guests, but 90% of the time it is very poor quality. There are of course exceptions, and I have encountered some excellent internet access in some hotels.
For example:
In Manila I got almost perfect reception at a 3,000 Peso per night room, but down in Puerto Galera, where I am paying under 700 pesos per night, (for a much better room) the free WiFi internet is atrocious.
So, I checked as much as I could and I seem to have found the solution…. “The Alfa”
Alfa produce a few options on their USB Wireless Long-Rang WiFi network Adapters, including different models and different antenna options.
These two caught my attention, with the second one having two antennas, so you can choose the best option for an individual area. The 7dBi Panel Antenna seems like it is the best for me, where I am now, and the AWUS036NHR model that allows 802.11N as well as B&G, seems the best long term option, even though I can’t utilize 802.11N at the moment.

and to extend your range even further, by moving the antenna … use a USB extension cable in between the laptop and the ALFA extender.
