Mothers Day, or Mothering Sunday as it is called in some countries, is a time for children to do something special for their Mothers.
The date of Mothers day is not the same in each country.
The 2012 dates for the three countries that are relevant to me are:
UK: 18th March 2012
Australia: 13th May 2012
USA: 13th May 2012
Mothering Sunday is celebrated in the UK on the fourth Sunday of Lent.
Mother’s Day is celebrated in Australia on the second Sunday of May each year.
The future dates for Australian and US Mothers days are:
- Mother’s Day 2013 – 12th May 2013
- Mother’s Day 2014 – 11th May 2014
- Mother’s Day 2015 - 10th May 2015
- Mother’s Day 2016 - 8th May 2016
Future UK Mothering Sunday Dates are:
- Mothers Day 2013 – 10th March 2013
- Mothers Day 2014 – 30th March 2014
- Mothers Day 2015 – 15th March 2015
- Mothers Day 2016 – 6th March 2016
The very first Mothering Sunday was sometime in the 1600′s in the United Kingdom, and officially began in the USA in 1914, although unofficially from 1872.
