There are a surprising number of inventions that have been created in Australia.

This list will be expanded on with confirmations, as and when I am able to confirm them:

  • Dim Sim – 1945 – Chinese chef William Wing Young created the Dim Sim for for his restaurant “Wing Lee”
  • Dual Flush Toilet – 1982  - Bruce Thompson, Caroma Industries, South Australia .
  • Electric Drill – 1889 – Arthur James Arnott, arrived in Melbourne in 1889 from Glasgow. He patented the world’s first electric drill on 20 August 1889 in Melbourne.
  • Electronic Pacemaker – 1926 – Dr. Mark Lidwill,  Sydney’s Crown Street Women’s Hospital.
  • Garage Roller door – 1956 – B&D
  • Google Maps – – Danish-Australian brothers Lars and Jens Rasmussen, Sydney.
  • Rotary Clothes Line – 1920 – Gilbert Toyne’s ‘All-Metal Rotary Clothes Hoist‘, designed in 1912, was being manufactured and advertised in Australia.
  • Hills Hoist – 1946 – Lance Hill made a low cost rotary clothesline.
  • Inflatable Aircraft Escape Slide & Raft – 1965 – Jack Grant, Qantas
